href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/09\/26\/woodstock-pavilions-digital-analog-construction\/\">timber installations<\/a> on the historic grounds of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/new-york-state\/\">New York<\/a>.<span id=\"more-2251993\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>More than 150 participants gathered for the fourth edition of The Bethel Woods Art and Architecture Festival, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bethelwoodscenter.org\/museum\/art-architecture-festival-2025\">BuildFest 2: Peace Rises<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Students construct timber installations at Woodstock site during BuildFest\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vdinoICsmzU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>The students lived and worked on site during the five-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/music-festivals\/\">festival<\/a> when they created experimental structures that explored how emerging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/technology\/\">technologies<\/a> can be used for the &#8220;collective good.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bethelwoodscenter.org\/\">Bethel Woods Center for the Arts<\/a>, and curated by Neal Lucas Hitch of design studio <a href=\"https:\/\/ithee.design\/\">I\/thee<\/a> the festival showcased large-scale <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/wooden-architecture\/\">timber<\/a> installations constructed using novel assembly and fabrication methods.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption-text\">Polylith by Syracuse University and Cornell University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Projects included Polylith, a modular stage fabricated using a six-axis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/robots\/\">robotic<\/a> arm.<\/p>\n<p>The adaptable structure was designed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/circular-economy\/\">circularity<\/a> in class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trillium by Rice University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other works included Trillium, an illuminated canopy built from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/recycled-plastic\/\">recycled plastic<\/a> and reclaimed timber that refracted light across its surface.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/installations-tag\/\">installation<\/a> draws from the native flower of the same name, which is associated with ideas of transformation and renewal.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"caption-attachment-2252654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peace Pavilion by the Rochester Institute of Technology Architecture and University of Manitoba<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Peace Pavilion installation consists of two identical spaces divided by a timber screen, inviting visitors to sit inside.<\/p>\n<p>The installation featured laser-engraved lyrics and phrases sung or spoken at the 1969 Woodstock festival.<\/p>\n<p>BuildFest encouraged students and faculty to reflect on how emerging technologies can both advance society and pose challenges to its well-being.<\/p>\n<figure construction, students and faculty took part in daily cultural programming, including a concert by experimental rock band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guerillatoss.com\/\">Guerilla
